Seven Meadows Barn Bathroom

Transforming a Historic Barn Bathroom: The Seven Meadows Project

At Oîkos Interiors, we take pride in blending contemporary design with the unique character of historic properties. Our latest project at Seven Meadows Barn in Ditchingham is a perfect example of this philosophy in action.

Combining Modern Functionality with Rustic Charm

The barn’s bathroom renovation presented unique challenges, from integrating a shower tray into an existing underfloor heating pad to maintaining the barn’s character. The clients were skeptical about how to achieve a seamless finish without compromising ceiling height or the integrity of the existing heating system.

Bespoke Solutions for a Seamless Finish

We chose a bespoke Resin Rock tray, allowing us to customize the waste placement precisely. By using a hand grinder, we lowered the tray to create a nearly flush finish, perfectly integrating it with the rest of the floor.

The Beauty of Microcement and Reclaimed Materials

The bathroom walls and custom vanity unit are clad in reclaimed old decking boards made from super hard poui wood, which is not only visually stunning but also incredibly durable in wet environments. For the shower cubicle and privacy wall, we applied a Forcrete micro-quartz coating in a coarse finish, hand-floated off to perfection. The subtle warmth of Little Greene’s “Ferdinand” pigment added a bespoke touch that tied the whole room together.

The Freestanding Resin Rock Arden Bath

A standout feature of this project is the freestanding Resin Rock Arden bath, microcemented in the same finish as the rest of the bathroom. This bath not only serves as a luxurious centerpiece but also ensures continuity in design and texture throughout the bathroom.

A Mix of Textures and Light

While the clients initially opted for wood-effect porcelain tiles, we strategically used microcement in key areas to create a cohesive yet varied aesthetic. To maximize natural light, we installed a bespoke floor-to-ceiling shower screen along with a minimalistic ceiling bracket from ABI Interiors, maintaining an airy, open feel in the corner of the room.

Custom Details and Finishing Touches

The custom vanity unit, also microcemented, features an inset shelf and doors that align perfectly with the reclaimed wood walls. Every brass fitting was meticulously chosen to complement the overall design.
